Mario Party Sucks! Here’s why.

I only own one copy of Mario Party and it is the Top 100 game. I’ve never been into the series and here is why.

About 20 years ago, my girlfriend at the time bought Mario Party for the N64. At first I was excited to try it but after we started to play it, I got extremely bored. Each game took about an hour to complete and I enjoyed the mini games but the board game aspect of it was so boring. You’d spend so much time rolling the dice and watching the player move around the board. It reminded me of Monopoly. Exciting at first but about a half an hour in you have to ask yourself if you’re really going to finish the entire game.

After the first Mario Party was released on N64, Nintendo started shooting out a ton of sequels. In the games you could play the mini games right from the start but that always seemed like an afterthought. over the years and though the console generations, the graphics improved but the gameplay stayed the same with a few minor tweaks.

I really do have fun with the mini games though. That part has always been fun for me. I just don’t think that board games ever really translate well into video games and Mario Party is no exception.

I recently purchased Mario Part Top 100 for Nintendo 3DS. Now this is a game I could get into because it skips all the board game crap and just focuses on what I want to play, the mini games! The top 100 mini games from all the Mario Party’s in one nice package.

Maybe I’m being too harsh and need to give it another chance. I hope one day I can sit down and play through a few games of Mario Party on the N64 and it feels like an actual fun party.
