Today I downloaded that game Sunflowers for PS Vita. Apparently the game is available for iPhone too but I have never heard of it before. The first thing that you will notice that’s different about this game is that it’s played on your PS Vita in vertical format which means that when playing you need to rotate your Vita 90 degrees. When I first heard this I instantly got turned off but it turns out that it really works well for this game. Because Sunflowers controls are touch screen only, There’s no need awkwardly push buttons while holding your Vita this way. The gameplay is very simple and great for casual gamers like myself who don’t have a lot of time and want to pick up a quick, 10-minute enjoyable game once in a while.
You control the sun, and the goal is to drop rain drops on the flowers below. To make the rain drops, the suns rays must pass through the clouds that move by. If you drop a ray of light that doesn’t pass through the clouds, it will burn whatever it touches on the ground. If it touches a flower, then that flower will burn and you need to give it water. If you burn too many flowers then you will get an X. Three X’s and game over. There are bonus levels once you collect a certain amount of points.
The graphics in Sunflowers are very good for such a cheap game. The sound is also very good and works well with the game. As you progress through levels, you can grow and collect new types of flowers. In the games main menu, you can view all the flowers that you’ve collected (there are over 300 types to collect in the game!) For $3.99 on the PlayStation Store you really can’t go wrong with this game. After purchasing it, I would consider it a must have Vita game for anyone that enjoys casual, arcade style games.
Scott Pilgram Vs. The World was a decent movie I recently saw in the theater and I just discovered that they made an awesome game to go along with the movie. The 2D side scroller game reminds me of River City Ransom type graphics. The game seems pretty deep. It lets you buy items, level up and learn new moves on your way to defeating seven angry boyfriends. This PSN exclusive is only $10 and looks to me like a must buy, as in I must buy it tonight.
Growing up in the 80’s and having an IBM computer at home I was fond of many video games on my computer including Digger, Round 42 and Agent USA. Digger in particular was a great game. The gameplay in Digger is very similar to the game Dig Dug where one must dig horizontal and vertical underground tunnels while collecting treasures and escaping from bad guys. The game has been remade as Digger HD for PSN. It has been out since last October but will be going on sale for $4.99 starting this Thursday. View the trailer above.
On April 21, Sega is releasing Afterburner Climax for $10 on PSN and XBOX Live. This title will be the fourth in the Afterburner series. I’m very excited about the game, being a fan of the huge arcade unit that took up a corner of most arcade floors in the late 80’s. Check out the trailer above.
Although the release date is still unknown, Tecmo is soon to be coming out with a remake of Tecmo Bowl available for download on PSN and XBOX Live. Hopefully the gameplay will be as addictive as it was for the NES and SNES versions of the games released years ago.
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 came out over 15 years ago. There have been many additional Sonic games after Sonic 3 but none have been classified as a true sequel until now. Sonic 4 Episode 1 is due to come out this summer. By Episode 1 I take it Sega will be releasing multiple episodes of Sonic 4 to follow this. Although it’s not confirmed by Sega, the game may also be hitting the iPhone in addition to PSN, XBOX Live and WiiWare. The official website has hints all over it that there is an unannounced platform that the game will be released on. And with iPhone games selling so well lately, Sega would be crazy to pass up that market.
